Reading Comprehension

Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it, and understand its meaning. An individual's ability to comprehend text is influenced by their traits and skills, one of which is the ability to make inferences. The types of questions focus on six categories: Main Idea, Supporting Ideas, Inference, Vocabulary, Organization/Logic and Tone/Style/Figurative Language.

Quantitative Reasoning

Quantitative Reasoning is the application of mathematical concepts and skills to solve real-world problems. The ISEE uses the following NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) strands as a basis for the Quantitative Reasoning section: Numbers and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis and Probability, Problem Solving. The focus of the Quantitative Reasoning section is on comparison and reasoning.

Verbal Reasoning

Verbal reasoning tests are often used as entrance examinations by schools, colleges and universities to select the most able applicants. This section consists of two parts: synonyms and sentence completions. The Synonym section assesses the student’s ability to pick, out of four options, a word with a similar meaning to the one in question. The Sentence Completion section assesses the student’s ability to complete a sentence logically by picking the correct word out of the four options presented.

Mathematics Achievement

The ISEE measures mathematics achievement by asking mathematical questions that relate to: Numbers and operations, Algebraic concepts, Geometry, Measurement, Data analysis and probability. The focus for the Mathematics Achievement section is on calculation, procedure, and terminology. Unlike the Quantitative Reasoning section, some items may require knowledge of mathematical terminology as indicated in the grade appropriate NCTM standards.

We've helped our students get into:

BTC has been helping my daughter study for the ISEE and is truly exceptional. My kid learned more with them in 1 session than she had learned with her previous tutor in the past 6 months. And most importantly, she felt confident after her session and asked to come back with a big fat smile on her face. Miraculous! - Stacy L.
A cozy nurturing environment that catered to my son's specific needs by targeting exactly what he needed to learn to be successful in his ISEE test. Unique, engaging and exceptional test taking strategies were offered. Individual assessments with pinpoint accuracy allowed him to bridge gaps that were missing in his education. BTCA helped him connect the dots that set him up for success. - Lisa C.
I love this place! BTCA reduced my daughter’s anxiety about school and gave her invaluable skills for success on testing and beyond. She was behind in math when she started, and now she’s testing above grade level. She is more confident, happy, and loves going to school. - Miranda D.
